# 10 What gets written down gets done
Many times our organizing journey starts off with a few false starts. Whether it is too broad of a goal, or no goals at all, many things can derail your attempts at getting organized. So how do you make sure you make progress with getting organized? Start by writing down your organizing goal. There was an old saying at a company I used to work for, “What gets written down gets attended to, and what gets attended to gets done.” Essentially if you hold yourself accountable by writing down your goals, organizing or otherwise, the goal comes out of your mind and into reality. You can then keep your goal where you can see it and take action whenever you can. Now, while this is helpful, we need to take it one step further. Don’t start with “organize the family room” Start with WHY you want to get organized. For example, “I want to organize my family room, so that I have more time with my kids” or, “I want to organize my closet, so that I have a less stressful morning routine.” Understanding what you will achieve with your organized space helps you make the decision to get started, and ultimately follow through with your goal of getting organized. It is hard work, but I promise you that the end result is worthwhile!
