#9 Break it Down Into Smaller Tasks
Now that you have an idea of your motivation behind getting organized, and have written down the space you want to organize it is time to get started right?. Not yet! This is a generalized goal, and is probably one of the biggest obstacles to success. Organizing the garage is a lofty goal. It also doesn’t have a clear action plan on how to actually accomplish the task. If you start out with a very general goal, when you start working it becomes overwhelming when you don’t know where to begin and the next steps to take. So how do we combat this? Identify the smaller steps you will need to take to accomplish the goal you set for yourself . This will make the overall project less daunting, and will create a great “to-do” list. For example, in a garage, you may write down the following:
- Sort through and purge gardening supplies
- Sort through tools and put away neatly
- Hang bikes on the wall
- Throw away or recycle any non-working items
- Sort through kids toys
As you get working, you may find that you need to add new tasks to your list, so please do so in order to keep track of what you need to get done. As you complete items, make sure you check them off. It always feels great to make progress with your home organization goals. Seeing that you have crossed items off your list will provide you with a sense of accomplishment!
