You’re doing great work on your home organization project. But how do you keep the momentum going? For many, seeing that you are making progress is all the motivation you need. Others may need something more. My recommendation is that as you progress through your organizing project, reward yourself accordingly! Studies have shown that getting a reward for completing a task keeps your motivation level high. That’s why we have reward charts for kids, right?
Here is the caveat! Do something that is rewarding, but make sure that your reward doesn’t bring new clutter into the home! Many people will make rewards for home organization that actually take them backwards in their goal of an organized home. So don’t go on a shopping spree!
So if you can’t go out and shop away your progress, what can you do? Consider doing something clutter-free. If you accomplished a big goal ladies could get a manicure, or get their hair done. For guys, go to the driving range, or go to a sporting event you enjoy like a baseball or hockey game. If you completed a goal as a couple, get a couples massage. Families could go to a movie, go for a hike, or some other activity that your family loves, but doesn’t have a chance to do very often. There are a lot of things that you can reward yourself with that are consumable or experiential in nature. Keep up the good work!
