Email has revolutionized the way we do business, keep in touch and live our lives. However, ironically enough it has created a large amount of digital clutter. People who would have thrown away memos in a heartbeat, will store things digitally forever in their in bin. The first thing to ask yourself is why are you keeping the email? Unless it serves a purpose as a reference source for you, throw it away.
Make sure to schedule one day each month to empty out your trash folder. Also, don’t forget your sent items folder. Often this goes overlooked and gets to be a massive storage problem down the road.
Many of my clients tell me that they are keeping an email because it contains someone’s contact information. Establish an address book, whether digital or physical, and use it.
