Here in the Northeast winter is on its way and its bringing with it colder weather. We have to heat our homes to keep our families warm. This winter, take a few steps to save yourself cash while staying warm. And who doesn’t love being warm and cozy?
The first thing you can do is install a digital thermostat. This allows you to use heat when you need it and when people are home. It also allows you to control the temperature accurately. Installing one thermostat can save you up to $180 per year.
Next, draw your attention to your windows. Are you leaking warm air? A simple do it yourself kit available at your local home improvement store will help you seal up and cracks.
Finally, and this is my favorite tip, install insulated blinds or shades. I did this about two years ago and it made a huge difference in the comfort level of my home as well as my heating bills. Insulated blinds used to be ugly, but bow they are made just like regular designer home decor items and can be quite cute. I bought mine at Target and they have paid for themselves already.
Use slippers, blankets and even heated throws to stay warm and save the planet and cash this winter too!
