I travel a lot. I’m on the road a lot for work and I love to travel
throughout the year when I take vacations. My husband doesn’t like to fly
so we drive.
I’m in the car right now on a road trip to a wedding. It got me thinking
about all of the things I do to travel in an organized manner. Now an
organized trip starts before you even leave the house. You have to know
what to take! I find that I never think of everything all at once, but
items will come to me over time. So I keep a list or I physically throw
items into a pile as the weeks and days before my trip approach.
In order to make travel easier and quicker to prepare for, I keep luggage
under the bed in my office. I have a toiletry bag on hand and fully stocked
at all times ready to go. I have a first aid kit packed and ready to go at
all times and I even pack a laundry bag to put dirty laundry in while I’m on
my trip. A little prep work goes a long way.
When I get home, I restock anything that needs it in my toiletry bag. And
the dirty laundry in the bag can go directly to the laundry room instead of
to the hamper.
Its also a great idea to make a list of things you need to take on every
trip. For example, a phone charger, maps, underwear, or baby supplies.
Having a list on hand will help you pack effectively when you are pressed
for time or distracted.
I also find it helpful to print things out before you travel. If there is a
particular restaurant you want to try on vacation, print out their address,
phone number and hours. This will make it easier for you to accomplish what
you want on vacation.
The best thing you can do to prepare for a road trip is to get into a road
trip state of mind. Make time in the car fun and make it a journey and not
the destination. Open your eyes and mind to the scenery around you and
experience all the country has to offer you.
