I believe that you can organize just about anything. And so, this week, I want to chat about organizing TV.
While the statistic is constantly moving, the average American watches about four hours of television per day. I’m not arguing this, and I’m not suggesting you watch less TV.
However, what I do want is you to stop and think about what you are watching. Are you simply collapsing on the couch and turning on mindless TV? This is okay once in a while, however, its wasting a lot of your time.
Get a TV recording program. Tivo is popular, however most cable companies have their own free or less expensive options. Decide what you really want to watch. What do you really enjoy and what are you actually excited to see week after week? Those are the shows to focus on first.
When you record your shows you get to decide when you want to watch them. If you don’t think that’s a big deal, you can fast forward through commercials and save up to 20 minutes per show. You can pause to answer the phone, clean up from dinner, etc. You can chose when shows are on and do things during those shows.
Personally, I record a few different shows and I never watch them when they are on. I watch them when I have small, menial tasks to do. These could include folding laundry, sending cards, cleaning up, etc. It saves me time and makes my simple, boring tasks enjoyable.
Try it for one week and see if your life isn’t better for it.
