Diary of An Organizer~Shoes and Purses

June 8, 2011 • Uncategorized

I’ve never made a secret of the fast that I love shoes and purses and have what many may say are too many of each of these genres.

However, the term “too  much” means different things to different people.  Some women have four pairs and feel that enough.  Others have hundreds and feel that’s the perfect amount.

The perfect amount varies for each and every one of us.  However, the key is realizing what you love, why you love it and using it on a daily basis.  I love flip flops.  Before I realized I loved flip flops, my shoe rack was over flowing with them.  I love comfy ones, sporty ones, dressy ones etc. ( I just bought a new pair of Jack Rogers sandals for graduation.)

So why am I tell you all of this?  I want you to step back and take a moment to think about what you love.  It is shoes, purses, etc?  Does your obsession cause you to have too many of that item and are you disorganized because of that?

While I have a very small closet and a lot of flip flops, I know exactly how many I can fit and each pair has a place.  If I buy another pair, I know that I have to get rid of an older pair.  I wear every pair I have and if a season goes by that I don’t wear a pair, they get donated.

If you’re a designer purse or shoe person, start by cleaning out your collections and selling what you don’t use on eBay or a consignment store.

So while having a lot of an item doesn’t mean you will be disorganized.  It does mean you need to commit to a limit, and you need to commit to an organizational system that will help you enjoy your collection.
