Car Ride Activities

Summer means road trips and road trips mean the kids asking the age old question of “Are we there yet?”.  This summer, do a little prep work to avoid the boredom when spending hours in the car.

First of all I suggest going out and purchasing a brightly colored container such as this one to get kids excited. A lid doesn’t hurt to keep items together.

Next stock the box with pencil cases or Ziploc bags.  Each container should have its own activity.  While you can pack toys from home, packing some new things will help make the car kit more exciting.  Visit the dollar store or your super store for some inexpensive items.  Here are a few ideas:

New crayons

New coloring books

Highlights magazine

Finger Puppets

Disposable Camera

Dominos and dice are great for number games

Car Bingo games (I will have another post soon on this!)

There are lots of games specifically designed for travel.  Or you can make your own with a metal tin and some magnets.  You can even purchase magnetic “paper” that you can print on to create whatever you desire!

Give each child a tray so they can color, draw, etc while in the car and not draw on your car’s interior.

One of the easiest ways to know what will occupy your kids in the car is to ask them what they want to do while you’re traveling.

Don’t forget to pack headphones so you don’t have the hear any electronic games they may be playing.  Extra batteries are also a must.

Its also a good idea to include some necessities in a Ziploc bag.  Tissues, napkins, wet wipes, hand sanitizer and sunglasses are a must.

Wow. I'm just amazed. I would never get this done. This was something that I truly wanted to do for months. I now have room! I feel like I can breath again.
