I often get asked what the best way to organize clothing in a closet is. There are lots of different methods. I am going to share with you the most popular. However, you have to recognize what works best for you, your space and your lifestyle.
1. By Color-If you are a visual person and would be able to grab a blue shirt more quickly if its with a lot of other blue items, then this is the way to organize for you. However, this method can be difficult as it was vary as you have some items that are dirty and in the laundry.
2. By outfit-If you’re always pressed for time you may want to put together tops and bottoms and hang them together. Add accessories and shoes too. This allows you to grab and go with little to no thought when you need to get out the door.
3. By Item-This is the most popular method. Hang all pants together, short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, etc. While you may spend more time looking for an item it will allow you to have clear visual lines as everything will be similar in size and shape in the various areas of the closet.
No matter what you pick, make sure you use uniform hangers so that you create clean lines. Its also important to make sure you have a place for dirty clothes. If you don’t have a hamper or a basket, dirty laundry will most likely end up on your floor.
