Planning an event? Sending out your invitations early enough is a must for the success of the event! Here is a simple guide to let you know how early is early enough.
Formal Dinner- Three to Six Weeks
Informal Dinner- A few days to three weeks
Wedding- 4 weeks to 2 months (It is becoming more and more common to send save the dates. This is particularly helpful if guests have to travel.)
Cocktail Party- 1 to 4 weeks
Bar or Bat Mitzvah- 4 to 6 weeks
Holiday Party-4 to 6 weeks (This is a very busy time of year so reserve the time on your guests’ calendar early!)
Graduation-4 weeks (Again, take into consideration if your guests have many graduations and parties to attend at this time of year.)
Christening-4 weeks
Birthday, Shower or Anniversary Party- 3 to 6 weeks
Lunch, tea or casual get together-Same day to 2 weeks

Before you send your invites, make sure you have the correct address. While labels that print directly from your address book may be easy and quick, it is important that you take a peek to make sure addresses are current and names are correct. Deaths, divorces and separations may all call for adjustments and if not corrected, can make for an awkward situation.
If you are allowing invitees to bring guests, specify this on the invitation. If you are limited on space, feel free to say that too. Make preferences known as to dress, preferred RSVP method, if you’d like guests to bring food, and gift options such as registries, donations, etc.
