It’s hard to believe that summer is already coming to an end for many of us. However, it’s not too late for one more great beach read. Enter, Brooklyn Girls by Gemma Burgess.
This book is unlike any you’ve ever read. It’s about a group of girls, making their way in the world after college in our difficult economy and society. It’s real, funny, and honest.
I love the fact that the heroine isn’t pulled together, perfect or even confident. She’s a true girl, making real (sometimes dramatic) mistakes and trying to make a life for herself.
The main character, Pia, gets involved in the food truck industry; a growing industry in a growing area of NYC, Brooklyn. This adds a fun dynamic to the story.
The book is a page turner and you aren’t going to want to put it down. It’s a great read for anyone who wants to escape to the streets of New York, seen through the eyes of a young, exciting and dynamic character. You don’t have to be 20 something to enjoy the book. In fact, I think I enjoyed it more, because I could step back and laugh a little at some of her choices and think “remember when”.
The book is the first in a series and it does, in fact, leave you wanting more from these girls and their journey. The book will take you on their journey and you will root for them to succeed, find family and make a life for themselves and find a home 🙂
