Social Media Time

January 21, 2014 • Time Management Tips

Recently Real Simple and The Huffington Post asked 3,583 women to complete a survey on social media.  Here are some of the results and they may surprise you!

48% of women asked would rather go a moth without sex instead of giving up their smart phones.

56% of women keep their smart phones near them during dinner.

76% of women say they check their smartphones at least once an hour.

3 in 4 women admit to having texted while driving.

47% of women keep their smartphones on their night stand.

SO, how does all of this effect you?  Many women feel they have to immediately respond to anything and everything that comes their way.  And, while it’s great to connect with old friends, be able to have relationships across the miles and see have casual conversations via text, all of that eats into our time ACTUALLY socializing and spending time with our family members.

Just like any successful organizing strategy, the key is to have a goal and then match it with a plan.  Here are a few questions to ask yourself when determining how social media fits into your already busy life.

How much time can you afford to spend on social media?

Does social media make you anxious or happy?

Have you considered deleting your profile because of problems with social media?

Are your “real life” relationships suffering because of your social media use?

Know that social media sites are made to get you to want to check back in as frequently as possible.  They are the same as advertising on your favorite television shows.  When you are logging on, make sure you have a reason to do instead of just killing time.  When you switch sites, makes sure you are paying attention to the fact that you are doing so.  It’s easy to go from site to site and before you know it, hours are gone!

There is a saying, “What gets written down gets attended to, and what gets attended to gets done.”

Write down your organizing goals and hold yourself accountable for completing them.

I know it seems like a big chore, but you’ll be glad you did it once you’re done!
