Healthy Reading

January 24, 2014 • Health/Fitness

There are lots of books out there designed to help you eat healthier, learn about fitness and cure chronic problems.  Choosing one that works for you is a personal decision.  However, here are three that I enjoyed reading and I wanted to share with you.

The French Twist by Carol Cottrill is an enjoyable, realistic and often humorous approach to changing the way you eat.  The book isn’t about providing a strict structure for you to follow.  If you’re looking for a daily regimen, this book doesn’t provide it.  What it does provide are guidelines you can easily follow in your daily life.  It also discusses the ways you can take what you are doing now, no matter where you are in your health journey.  Some of the tips I love the most in the book are:

1.  Step up your diet.  Change out one thing a week.  If you’re eating iceberg lettuce, switch to romaine.  If you’re eating romaine, switch to spring mix.

2.  Shop the outside of the store.  The fresh foods are best.  If it comes in a package, think twice.

3.  What’s your goal weight?  Why is that your goal?

4.  Savor each moment.  We tend to race around from moment to moment and forget to savor.  When it comes to food, taking your time is important.

5.  Set standards for your diet and stick to them.

The book also include interludes where you can learn about amazing foods such as chocolate, wine and cheese.  The book provides a dictionary of healthy foods for you too.  It’s a great resource you’ll go back to again and again.

The book is available in many locations, including Amazon.   You can also purchase it for Kindle.

The second book is called The Clean Eating Handbook, 31 Essential Rules for Health, Wellness and A Fabulously Fit Life.  If you’re looking for a guide that is easy to read, easy to digest (no pun intended) and highly implementable tips.  The book discusses what you eat, how you eat it and WHY you eat it.  Some of the tips are common sense, but they are a much needed reminder for those of us who live in a fast paced drive through world.

The 31 tips are presented in a light weight book that is easy to carry, easy to make notes in and easy to reread when you need a refresher course.  The book gives you real life examples to help you remember the tips and to implement them.  The end of the book even includes recipes to get to started!

This book is available in paperback and Kindle for purchase on Amazon.

This next book is on a topic that no one really wants to talk about, digestion.  However, it’s a very important part of our health.  The book starts out by talking about the issues that you may have experienced.  you may not even have known what your troubles were called!  Then, the book goes on to tell you how to fix those symptoms through a series of healthy eating steps.  If you thought your diet was healthy but still had digestion problems, Happy Healthy Gut will help you trouble shoot.  There are even recipes and shopping lists to help you get started.

Digestion is something we all should pay more attention to as it’s at the core of our health.  This book really puts a spot light on an important topic that will make you feel better inside and out.  You can buy the book on Amazon.
