Staging & Organizing to Sell Your Home: First impressions are everything
Organizing and staging your house to look its best is definitely one of those things you need to think about before putting your home on the market. Presenting your home in the right light will help to hook potential buyers as soon as they walk in the door. Here are six things that I always recommend my clients do before they put their home on the market:
1. Declutter.
It’s important for your home to look neat and tidy for potential homebuyers. It’s difficult for someone to picture themselves living in a new place if clutter like books, toys and picture frames fill each room. To make it easier to imagine what it would be like to live in your home, try depersonalizing each room by removing any pictures or other personal items that might be out.
2. Make sure each room is well lit.
Open the shades, blinds or curtains to fill the house with natural light. It will create an airy, open look throughout the home, which will send a welcoming vibe to homebuyers.
3. Scrub the kitchen and bathroom.
Redfin agents agree that kitchens and bathrooms sell homes, so it’s important that those spaces are given some extra TLC before showcasing your home. Get rid of any surface mold by using a mixture of water and bleach. Be sure to remove any stains or mold that can be seen in-between any tiles.
4. A fresh coat of paint can go a long way.
No one wants to see chipped paint, or cracks in a wall. A fresh coat of paint can give any room new life. Think about choosing light, neutral tones for smaller rooms when picking a paint color. Lighter shades of color make smaller rooms feel larger.
5. Make those minor repairs you’ve been putting off.
Replace any burned out light bulbs, broken electrical outlets, or light switches. It would be wise to also repair any leaky faucets or clogged drains before anyone tours your home. Replace any broken tiles that may be an eyesore. Squeaky hinges are music to no one’s ears, so be sure to take care of those as well.
6. If you have a yard, don’t showcase a jungle.
Remember, the outside of your home is the first thing a homebuyer will see. Be sure to weed, mow or trim any greenery you have, and
clean the windows too. People want to envision what the home will look like when they walk up to it after a long day at work.
