Too Many Photos? Not Anymore.

September 17, 2014 • Photos/Artwork, Reviews

We all have TONS of photos.  I mean, I’m an organizer and I still have boxes and boxes of old photos.  I used to get them developed and them write on the outside of the envelope what was included inside.  Then, I stacked the envelopes in chronological order, in a photo box like this one.  My process was the best I could come up with at the time and it wasn’t very precise.  The worst thing about it? I can’t easily see or find any of these photos.

Now, there are so many better ways to organize, view, use and honor your photos.  So how do you go from the boxes (or even totes!) full of photos to being able to use and see them?  I decided that I was never going to find the time to scan them all in, label them and back them up.  So I tried ScanMyPhotos.com

So, here’s how the process worked.  They sent me a box (11″ x 8.5″ x 5.5″) and I loaded photos into it.  Each box holds about 1800 photos.  I didn’t count, but it was a lot.  There is no cost to ship the box back to them.

Scan My Photos then scans all my photos and sends me a disc with all of the digital images on there!  How awesome is that?  This costs $99.  WELL worth it for the amount of time I would have spent scanning these in myself.

There are add on features available.  You can upgrade from 300 dpi images to 600 dpi images.  You can add rush shipping or even have them create a photo index for you (and rotate the photos).  They will even “clean up” your older, faded photos with photo soap.

Scan My Photos

Overall, this process was really easy to use and really time efficient.  I was pleased with the quality of the disc and I could easily import the photos to my computer and start using them.  There were photos I had forgotten about and I quickly got to work sharing with family members and on social media. This would make an amazing gift for someone who has years worth of photos in boxes!   Chip in and have this service done as a family and you can all share the photos digitally!
