Getting Ready for 2015 with a #healthierhome

December 4, 2014 • Home Organizing Tips

Your plate is full with the holidays; buying gifts, cooking and visiting.  However, I want you to stop and think about prepping for 2015.  Instead of waiting until the last minute to start 2015, now’s the time to get a ahead start.  Here are just a few things you can do NOW to have a happier, healthier 2015.

Please note I received a sample from Filtrete in order to be able to write this review.  My opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way.

Getting Ready for 2015

While you may have checked your smoke detectors when you set your clocks ahead, I always like to double check them during December.  With holiday lights, candles and Christmas trees, the fire hazards are increased.  Take a few minutes and give yourself peace of mind.

Likewise, check on your fire extinguishers.  Do you even know where they are located?  Could you get to one quickly if needed?  Are they charged and ready to go?  And most importantly, do your kids know the answers to these questions.  Spend 15 minutes or so educating everyone in your house, it could save a life.

FiltreteReplace your air filters.  The winter brings with it dust and dirt that summer doesn’t.  Your home is most likely closed up now and the air you breathe can not only change how you feel, it can positively effect your health.  I buy the highest level of filtration available (Filtrete 1500) to get rid of as many dust mites, germs and dirt as possible in the winter months.  My dogs are inside a whole lot more during the winter!

I like to start cleaning out the pantry during the holidays.  If I’m not going to use it to cook in December, toss it.  It’s also a GREAT time of year to donate unused and unwanted food that your family is never going to eat.

Most people try to eat healthier at the start of the new year so it’s a great time to donate all of those cookies and candies.

Calendar

While we are coming towards the end of the year, the days are jam packed with action items and activities.  Print you a calendar like this one and write down everything you need to do so nothing falls between the cracks.  Search online for 2015 free printable calendars to get a jump of your commitments for the new year!

There is a saying, “What gets written down gets attended to, and what gets attended to gets done.”

Write down your organizing goals and hold yourself accountable for completing them.

I know it seems like a big chore, but you’ll be glad you did it once you’re done!
