This is a very simple craft that will really find a special place in your heart. You can really embrace it and make it your own with different varieties of paper, container and ink colors, but I’m going to give you a general frame work. So many times we are busy and racing from activity to activity. We complain about work, cleaning and all of our commitments. I struggle with this too.
I realized that many of these “problems” are actually blessings. Too much laundry? That means you have clothes to wear.
I had a hard time during the holiday season this year. I had SO many commitments and SO many deadlines. BUT I realized this was because I had lots of work and lots of loved ones. At that moment I challenged myself to make a gratitude jar. Not because I wanted to have one more thing to do but I wanted to make sure that Mr. Joyful Organizer and I took time out to count our blessings, even during the busy times. I also wanted to give us a physical and visual reminder of the blessings in our life.
My supplies were simple. I grabbed a ball jar I had on hand and I purchased a pack of origami paper. I found the paper on Amazon for about $5. It’s patterned paper and easy to cut so it was a winner for me.
I first cut the paper into strips. I used a ruler, cutting mat and small cutter that’s designed for scrapbooking. I had these items on hand. You could use scissors to cut the paper if you didn’t have a cutter. If you had little ones, they could help you do the cutting. (Supervised!)
I picked out a pen that wrote in a fun and complimentary color and stashed it with the paper. I left the strips of paper straight until they were written on. Then, I folded them up and tossed them in the jar. As the jar fills up you have a beautiful display.
I intend to set aside a little time at the end of the year to go through this and relive some of the memories of the year. I’ll keep you posted.
Tell me what you do to make sure you include gratitude in your life!
