Organizing cords can be difficult. The fact that cords come in many shapes and sizes, you need to carry some with you and they get tangled easily, and you have a recipe for an organizing nightmare. I wanted to give you some ways to organize the cords you use frequently and use on to go.
I’m going to show you a two different organizers, but I’ll start with the easier of the two. Here’s what you’ll need:
A piece of leather or faux leather (I used faux leather that I bought on Etsy.) About 10 inches by 6 inches, BUT you can chose any size you like!
A sharp craft knife
A snap kit (I bought mine for about $10 on Amazon. It had way more snaps than I used for these projects.)
A hammer (not pictured here)
Now the snap kit comes with instructions and they take a little time to figure out. However, it comes down to this: punch holes, and then add stamps. Here you will see me using the tool to add holes. I used a cutting mat underneath to protect my table. I folded over the edges of the leather and punched holes through the two pieces…this way the edges will seem finished. See below.
Next you’ll add the snaps. Again, this is through the folded over edge. You could glue this edge down, but it looked just fine to me and is held together by the snaps.
Here’s what it looks like when the snaps are affixed and before it’s rolled up.
Just roll up the cord you want to carry and wrap the cord organizer around it. I normally wouldn’t need to carry a cord this large with me, BUT I wanted to show you how large of a cable it could hold. It’s a great tool for on the go because you can fold it up and tuck it away when you’re not using it!
Another version on this is the cord taco….for this one, just cut a circle out of leather. I used a small glass bowl I have and used the knife to cut around it. It took me a little while to get it just right. You could trace and cut too.
Next, add a snap, just like you did above and you’re ready to travel! You could make this in any size, but I made it small enough for a phone charger. It will never get lost or tangled in your bag again!
