I do a lot of research on apps for my clients. There are a lot of cool ones out there. However, the ones I find useful and use day in and day out are things that make my life easier. I wanted to share my favorites with you today.
When I travel I swear by Around Me. This app uses your location and tells you, by genre, what’s around you at the time. This is great when you have no idea where the closest coffee shop or gas station is. It’s a great way to find a place to stop and refuel or a place to take care of the necessities. I’ve used this a LOT while out walking around a new city.
You’ve probably heard of Evernote. It’s an app that allows you to digitize all of those to-do lists you have everywhere. I use it to keep all of my lists together in one place. I have lists for; the gifts I’ve bought for birthdays and anniversaries every month, packages I’m expecting, blog posts I need to write, items I need to purchase and more. I love it because I can scan documents into it and keep them there. I can also share lists. My favorite feature is that I can view the lists on my computer, iPad, phone and so on. It’s like having a notebook with me at all times, without the bulk.
Since I’m a coffee junkie, I do love my Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks apps. They allow me to head into the store and pay with the money on the account instead of having to bring in my wallet. This is particularly great after a run with my dog or a yoga class. By using the app, I also earn points towards free coffees and have access to coupons and deals.
This is another travel app (and website)-TripAdvisor.com is my go to restaurant finder when I’m traveling. I love eating at local restaurants and always want to try the local speciality. Trip Advisor allows you to see the top rated restaurants in an area, not just the restaurants that pay for advertising. You can sort by genre, location, and so on. When I was just in Nashville, I felt like Thai food. I found and ate at the #1 Thai place. It didn’t disappoint!
The Becky Higgins app is an amazing digital scrapbooking tool. Take your photos (the ones you take on your phone and usually do nothing with) and turn them into printable, sharable images. I love this because the app is inexpensive. It’s easy to use AND the results are stunning. Here’s an example of a collage I made form phone pictures I took at the Henry Ford Museum.
