My Weekly Calendar

August 27, 2016 • Paper and Office Organizing

My schedule isn’t straight forward. I don’t work a 9-5 job and I’m always working on various client projects, Joyful Organizer tasks, and of course, I try and find time to eat and sleep.  It’s not easy to make sure it all fits in.  I find that if I don’t make a plan, all hell breaks loose. I wanted to share how I keep track of everything and what tools I use to do it.

Please note that Three By Three sent me a sample of this calendar to try out.  My opinions are my own and were not sponsored or influenced in any way.  This is a tool I use professionally and personally and wanted to share it with you.

Calendar Chaos

I like to start with a great calendar.  While I do use a traditional paper agenda, I like having a quick an easy to read visual representation of my life, right on my desk.  I love the new jOTBLOCK Monthly Planner by Three by Three.

Desktop Duty

The planner sits directly on your desk and every day of the week is represented by a different color column. Because it’s not dated to any particular year, you can write in the dates of the month as you see fit.  You can use this as a family calendar to see everyone’s events throughout the month at a glance.  Use different pen colors to designate each family member.  It’s also a great pad to meal plan with.  Grab the pad, head to the pantry and freezer to see what you have on hand, and write out a general plan for the month. From there you can make the applicable grocery lists.

Make It Fun

From here, I can use the spaces which are designed for the days of the month, to write down all of the parts of my day such as; meal plan, workout, appointments, calls to make and so on.   I also love to color code my pen choice for each of these options.  Want to add some extra flair?  Throw in some washi tape highlighting and not only will your calendar be effective, it will look amazing too!

Avoid Failure

Here you can see a week I set up for one of my clients.  We sat down and write out kids’ activities, appointments, meals, and lots of items in between.  Writing everything down in one spot not only gives you an idea of what your week looks like, it lets you know if you can really accomplish everything you’ve set out for yourself.  Often, we over schedule so much that we are setting ourselves up for failure.  A clear plan can help avoid chaos and disappointment.

If you want to know more about the stickers seen on the calendar, check out this blog post.

Bonus points to the jOTBLOCK Calendar for holding paper clips, binder clips, and a pen close by too 🙂

There is a saying, “What gets written down gets attended to, and what gets attended to gets done.”

Write down your organizing goals and hold yourself accountable for completing them.

I know it seems like a big chore, but you’ll be glad you did it once you’re done!
