Bella Luna Toys to Donate 10% of Profits from Sale of all Products in Earth Day Collection during the Month of April to the NRDC

(Rockland, Maine – March 22, 2017) Spring often can’t come soon enough for families, especially if they’ve been cooped up inside all winter. With longer and warmer days, buds appearing on trees and flowers peeping through the ground, it’s a wonderful time to rediscover the outdoors and get kids to explore the world around them.

Sarah Baldwin, parenting expert, author and owner of Bella Luna Toys shares her top tips and gift ideas for using Earth Day on April 22 to engage kids around the great outdoors, giving them a greater appreciation of the earth, and sharing our collective responsibility to look after it.

  1. Plan a slow and purposeful nature walk with your child and point out the different homes and habitat for creatures in your area – e.g. birds nests, rabbit holes, mole holes, bee hives, fox dens, seal rocks, frog ponds etc.
  2. Create a special kids garden or a window box where your child can dig and plant seeds – flowers, herbs or even vegetables
  3. Sign you and the kids up for a local beach or park cleanup event
  4. Build a Fairy House with your child that will deepen your child’s connection to nature and engage his or her imagination
  5. Go to the Library and check out books on your area’s flora and fauna and weather permitting, picnic outside and play ‘I spy’ looking for trees, plants and birds from the book
  6. Organize a scavenger hunt that has kids looking or leaves, twigs, flowers, stones, bark, feathers etc.
  7. Repurpose old household items such as empty washing up liquid bottles and teach kids that with a little imagination everything can be re-used, even it’s just for arts and crafts
  8. Research and choose a non-profit organization with your child that promotes a cleaner and healthier earth and make a donation, making kids aware that there are many people and organizations that work hard to make sure the earth will be around for generations to come
  9. Make and bake mud pies outside, taking the time to explain how soil is made and that it’s the basis with which we grow food
  10. Shop online for some fun earth day games and crafts to do with kids:
