Summer’s Favorite Things

Please note I received samples of some of these items in order to write these reviews.  My opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way.  These are the items I’m actually using in my home right now.

Tricky Ticks

Connecticut is notorious for ticks.  Sadly, it’s one of the things we’re most famous for.  So with over an acre of property and two dogs, ticks are a big concern for me.  We did a lot of research on the best way to keep our yard clear of ticks.  We didn’t want to try chemical options, with a small one just starting to crawl around, so we tried out Thermacel’s tick tubes.  All you need to do is place the tick tubes around your yard (instructions included), twice a year.  It’s the easiest method of keeping ticks out of your yard and off your kids and pets that you will find.  There are lot of professional services out there, any many simply place these tubes for you.  Save yourself the money, and do the job yourself!

Mosquito Mischief

I’ve been camping at the same campground my entire life.  This year, I got out of the car and within minutes, had three mosquito bites.  It’s safe to say the bugs were the worst they have ever been in my almost four decades of camping.  The Thermacell Halo Patio Shield was just what we needed.  When you turn the unit on, it creates a 15×15 foot shield against bugs.  I was VERY skeptical, but it worked so well, we fired up a second one across the campsite.  These kept our campsite bug free so we could enjoy eating, chatting, and the campfire.  I also loved that I didn’t have to slather my little one in chemicals and bug spray for the whole trip!  I was also able to find refills at lots of stores on my trip!

Back to My Mat

One of the hardest transitions for me after having my little, was not going to yoga as frequently…wait….I meant to say at all…part of this was not having the time and part of it is that I’ve moved farther away from my regular yoga studio.  Anyway, I’ve been committed to getting back to my mat and with that, I’ve given myself some gentle reminders.  This month, I used Buddhi Box.  I’ve told you about them before, but they are better than ever.  The monthly subscription has some amazing self care items to help you nurture yourself, AND take care of your yoga practice.  The box’s contents will delight you and inspire you every single month.   Want to try it? Use code buddhi50 for 50% off your first box!

Pet Pampering

Okay, it’s summer and my dogs are spending a LOT of time outside.  It’s hard to keep them clean. While we make regular trips to the groomers, it’s not easy keeping them smelling fresh.  Since they love to snuggle, clean dogs are a must.  I was recently able to try out Gerrard Larriett’s No Rinse Waterless De-stress Lavender & Chamomile Aromatherapy Shampoo & Conditioner For Pets.  This no rinse formula is just what the doggie doctor ordered to use in between baths and after some stinky days on the hiking trail.  The lavender smell is amazing for all of my family members and it’s easy to use.  It’s also dye free, paraben free, made in the USA and biodegradable.  Grab yourself some to keep away the summer stink!

Summer Serving

When we moved into our new home, one of my favorite things was our large back deck.  I adore having company over and throwing dinner parties out there.  However, I was quickly stumped by how to get all of the accessories and food out there and still make it look cute.  Well, Thirty-One products has come to the rescue with their adorable, and functional Close To Home Tray.  It’s perfect for serving small snacks.  It’s customizable and when I’m not serving with it, I have it on a table in my entry way, and I get so many compliments on it!  It’s truly an adorable piece that’s also functional!

Beach Buddy

Thirty-One’s Cool Clip Thermal Pouch was my surprise of the summer.  When I first saw it, I was unsure that I would find it useful.  Well after taking it out with me a few times, it quickly because my new best friend. It’s the PERFECT size to tuck away a few snacks; granola bars, juice pouches, and even a small water.  I tuck the thermal pouch into a bigger bag and my items stay cool.  This is perfect for the beach, the car, or the hiking trail.  No melted snacks, a happy family, and no mess! This is a MUST HAVE for anyone on the go in the summer heat.  Oh and the patterns are adorable.

Sunblock Reminder

While this may seem super silly to you, I need a reminder to NEVER leave the house without my sunblock. So I’ve been using Thirty-One’s Keepsake Tray by the door.  I put my bottles of sunblock in the tray, one for me, one for baby, and I know that we’ll never leave the house unprotected.

Summer Shoes

While I thought summer was the season of going barefoot, it seems that my family has exactly one zillion pairs of shoes for the summer.  In an attempt to keep all of these shoes under wraps and in a place where I can actually find them, I am using Thirty One’s Mini Storage Bin.  It’s just big enough to hold a few pairs of shoes (more of little man’s), and small enough to fit under my entry way table. When the dirt starts to collect on the bottom, I can simply take it outside and shake it out.  I love the fun pattens, everyone gets their own.  It’s a great way to organize, sort, AND contain shoes, accessories, and gear.
