With the summer upon us, it’s time to move the family outside. The days are longer, the temps are warmer and with more space to roam, the whole family can have a little more fun. So how do you make the most of your backyard this summer? Well, no matter how big, or small, your space is, there are some easy ways you can make it feel like a vacation, every single day of the week.
- Lighting. Adding some strings of lights can not only make it possible to enjoy your space after dark, but it can add ambiance to make your space seem a lot more magical and romantic. String lights are also a much less expensive option than installing outdoor fixtures. You can even change the colors of the bulbs you use for holidays and parties. When thinking about lighting don’t forget candles. Candles that repel bugs do double duty as they make your space bug free AND provide a warm glow to your outdoor area.
2. Have movie night OUTSIDE. Impossible you say. Well technology has come a long way and now with options like SunBrite’s Veranda Series TVs you can watch TV outside just as comfortably as inside your home. Their TVs are designed specifically for outdoor use and can resist rain, snow, dust, bugs and even extreme temperatures. It’s a 4k TV with HDR and it’s 50% brighter than indoor TVs so you can see everything. How cool is that?
3. Bring the couch outside. Ok, I don’t mean the REAL couch. However, there are so many amazing cushion and plush patio options available now that you no long have to sacrifice comfort while hanging around outside. Even if you don’t have a lot of space, or a whole patio, you can find weather resistant bean bag chairs for your apartment balcony. It’s all about using what you have and making it comfortable.
4. Plant your way to beautiful. Inside your home you decorate the walls with paint and pictures. Outside, nature is your canvas. Use potted plants in all shapes and sizes to decorate your space. When used cleverly potted plants can give your space privacy, block it from wind, and of course, as color and beauty! Start with a few small plants and go from there. I like to visit the clearance section of my home improvement store and see what funky and mismatched pots I can find. My outdoor space is the one spot I get a little funky decorating in my home.
