Roxy is my first dog. She’s a border collie and we adopted when she was two years old. Quite honestly, I never thought about her getting older or the effects that aging would have on her. She’s now seven and things have started to shift just a little bit.

I run with my dog Roxy multiple times a week. She used to be pulling and pulling and leaving me behind. now we’re more of a team and she gives me less dirty looks to keep up. She also pants a bit more and lays down right when we
return to the car. She still loves to run, but we both go a little slower and cover a little less distance these days. Having an aging pet is a great concern to me. Because I’ve never had a dog before the effects are shocking to me and more pronounced than I thought they would be. It wasn’t until I took her to the vet for her regular visit that I first heard her called a “senior dog”.
Roxy is a little slower to get up from a nap. The fact that she naps at all means she’s getting older. For years she was in constant movement and never sat down.
We were able to try out Purina’s Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND food from PetSmart. This food has botanical oils in it which are shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs over seven years of age. I love that I can buy it at my local PetSmart and don’t have to make an additional stop anywhere. (I can also load up on treats and toys at the same time!)
Since we’ve been feeding Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind, Roxy has been more interested in play and she’s even started to let me work on some new tricks and training with her. I thought those times were behind us. However, she’s bright, quick, and ready to learn new things!
The saying that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks just isn’t true. With Purina’s Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND, your dog may show more interest in playing and learning new tricks. For my already active border collies, it’s as if she’s a puppy again and wants to play ALL the time!
