I wanted to share with you some of the tricks and tools I use inside my own closet. It’s a space I get asked about a lot….What does a professional organizer’s closet look like? What do you use? I will tell you my closet is only a few feet across and I have an Elfa system installed that I designed myself. I use lots of other organizational tools to maximize every inch of space inside the closet.
Top Row From Left
I use a small, open top bin that I bought a few years ago at Target to keep all of my scarves together. I roll them over my hand and tuck the end in so they stay together. I can see what I have and grab and go quickly.
I use a vertical jewelry organizer. It hangs off the upper hanging rod and holds about 50 pieces of jewelry. I use this for pins, beads and anything else that’s durable and bulky.
Using a clothing folder ensures everything sits flat and looks uniform. They are especially useful for bulky items like sweaters.
Second Row From Left
A “shoe shelf” on the bottom of the closet, under even the lowest shelves, allows me to stack shoes and keep them organized.
Folding items and putting them into drawers with the folded end up, allows me to see everything and make sure nothing falls to the back and doesn’t get worn. I use this with my workout gear most of all as they fold up nice and small.
I have a shelf up at the top of my closet where I keep shoes I don’t wear very frequently. I put them into plastic shoe boxes to protect them from dust and label them so I can grab easily when the time comes.
Bottom Row From Left
I installed a hook on the wall between the clothing and the door. I use it, and a belt organize, to keep all of the belts I wear frequently. I change them out with the seasons.
Command Hooks-Again, I tuck these into small, otherwise unused areas of the closet to hang sweatshirts, scarves and items I might wear again or want to grab and wear.
I prefer wooden hangers. They allow everything to hang with its own space and they look appealing to the eye.
