This project came from my love of keeping things neat, paired with my love of things that make me smile. I really wanted some “bar towels” to keep in my coffee area to mop up small spills or coffee rings. I am always in need of wiping down a water bottle before it heads into my work out bag and from time to time (ok, at least once a week), my dogs knock something over I have to pick up. SO, I wanted some adorable towels that I could daily. I didn’t want to spend a lot and I wanted them to be adorable. Here’s what I came up with.

I bought these flour sack towels in a set of four at Darby Smart for $6. I also used a small tube of Tulep brand gold fabric paint. The pencil I had on hand and the paint came from Amazon. (Like most things I buy..lol).

I put some fabric paint into a small cup and then spread out the towel. Dip the pencil eraser into it (gently) and then touch it to the towel (gently). You’ll get the hang of it and how much paint you need on the eraser. I went for a random pattern so I didn’t measure before hand. I moved around the towel as I painted to avoid leaning over too far and getting and on my clothes.

The finished towels were delightful and fun. They are durable and functional and if I do say so myself, they look very Kate Spade-ish.

Note-the paint dries in four hours. However, you cannot wash it for 72. I used a shipping envelope under neath the towel as I was doing this to avoid transfer. I tried one towel with another type of fabric paint and it blend right through to the tile floor below. I quickly cleaned it up, BUT if I had been doing this on a table or rug, the results might not have been so good. Here is the second type of paint I used. I tried it in blue for a nautical look. It was equally adorable.
What would YOU put on towels like these? Comment below and let me know!
