Organizing and Essential Oils
For me, the two go hand in hand. I love organizing. I don’t need any prodding to go through my closet on a regular basis or let go of items I no longer use. However, many of my clients don’t feel this way. They like the end result of organizing. They just don’t like the action they have to take to get to the end result.

My new clients often have mixed feelings about me showing up for our appointment. They look forward to getting the project done so they can get on with their life. At the same time, they are very nervous about it. Having a stranger come into your home and go through all your personal things is enough to make anyone anxious, so I understand their feelings. There are a couple of things you can do to help ease the stress and anxiety some experience during the process.
Relax
Yes, relax. Before you start your project, sit quietly for a few minutes. Close your eyes. Clear your mind. Take slow deep breaths in through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Don’t think about the long list of tasks to complete, what you’re going to make for dinner, what time you have to pick up the kids. Just relax.
Essential Oils
I have discovered something that is very effective with my clients. I put a drop of Peppermint oil and a drop of Wild Orange oil in the palm of their hand. They rub their hands together, close their eyes, cup their hands over their nose and mouth, taking 2-3 deep breaths. Then I have them rub their hands across the back of their neck. This combination of essential oils invigorates them. Their energy level rises, their focus increases, and their mood is uplifted. If they are really anxious, I will have them use a couple drops of Serenity or Lavendar oil.
Now they are ready to get down to work.
Get Started
Getting started can be the stopping point for many because they don’t know where to start. The fact is, it doesn’t really matter where you start. Pick a spot and start there. You can start with the area that is the easiest to get done. You can start with the area that is causing you the most pain. You can start with the area that is used most often by the most people in the house. The important thing is…..START!
If you need an additional boost of energy while you are organizing, repeat the essential oils protocol above.
Happy organizing!
