Easy Weekend Crockpot Cooking~Sloppy Joes

Even kids love sloppy joes. They are a fun way to get some protein into the diet and with this recipe, they are easy to make. While you can get them out of a can, this is a recipe made with fresh ingredients and it doesn’t have preservatives and a high sodium content like the canned version. I used ground turkey breast but you could use chicken, beef or whatever you prefer.

Sloppy Joes

Hungry FamilyI got this recipe from The Hungry Family’s Slow Cooker Cookbook. It’s a book full of family friendly, easy to make meals with the items you probably already have on hand. Directions are easy and well written and the book is filled with photos that will inspire you to get cooking. This is a cook books that you’ll actually WANT to make everything out of! It’s all fairly healthy too! And did I mention kid friendly? These are crowd pleasers for sure. You can order The Hungry Family Slow Cooker Cookbook on Amazon.

Ingredients:

1 pound ground turkey (I buy this in bulk at Costco and put it right into the crockpot frozen)

1/2 red onion, cut up

1 Tablespoon brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt (I used kosher)Crockpot Sloppy Joes Steps

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1 cup ketchup

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

1/2 cup water

Hamburger or hoagie rolls to serve it on

I measured out the ingredients and then put them into the crockpot one by one. I stored a few times and broke up the meat. Other than that, it was super simple and easy.

I took it out, stirred and then served on rolls. This is a winner for a busy night AND we had leftovers for lunches the next day!
