I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central forFellowes Brands. I received a product sample to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
So while we’re all focused on buying gifts, sending cards and baking, some of the real holiday tasks are those that are in your home; the clutter you haven’t donated, the paper you need to sort or the stuff on the guest bed that needs to be moved before Grandma arrives. These are the tasks that will not only make you feel great about your home during the holidays, but throughout the New Year.
One of the biggest organizational challenges that everyone faces is paper. Paper comes into our homes uninvited every single day in the form of papers from school, work and mail. So what can you do?
The best course of action with mail is to stop it at it’s source. Sign up for online bill paying services so you don’t receive monthly statements. Call companies that send you catalogs and ask to be removed from their mailing lists.
Make sorting papers easy on yourself. Keep a recycling bin in the entryway, where you bring the mail in. I also like the kitchen as a central location. Also, keep a shredder near by. If you don’t have a shredder, it’s time to get one. It’s simply too risky to toss your junk mail in the trash.
I was lucky enough to try out the Fellowes M-12C Shredder and it’s kind of like a dream come true. Not only is it small in size, but it’s sleek and doesn’t look like a clunky piece of office equipment. It fits neatly under a counter, table or desk. What I love is that it can shred up to 12 pages at a time! So I can usually put a whole day’s worth of junk mail in at once. I don’t need to remove staples either
It also shreds cards….super useful when you have to dispose of one!
So what should you shred? ANY paper or document that contains confidential information (credit card numbers, purchases, social security numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, and so on). If you own a business, shred items that pertain to your clients, even proposals. Consider legal guidelines such as HIPAA when deciding what to shred as well. It’s always best to fall on the side of caution. When in doubt, shred it!
So how does all of this relate to the holidays? Because it’s not good enough to pick up those piles of paper and shove them in a closet. They will be there after the holidays! Start shredding them NOW. Set yourself up in front of a show and shred away. Kids also love the shredder and this would make a great chore for them. The M-12C even has touch technology so if you touch it while it’s on, it automatically turns off.
Oh and once you shred your papers, you can use them as packing materials for your holiday decorations, gifts or things you are mailing.
This would make an amazing gift for someone! Useful and thoughtful! Learn more about the M-12C here. It’s available at Target so you can pick one up when you’re running errands next!

Bonus Tip: When sorting a pile of paper, flip and over and start from the bottom, the items there are the oldest.
