5 Ways to Create a Sleep Sanctuary

August 13, 2015 • Guest Bloggers

A comfortable sleeping environment can take your bedroom from being a so so room to being the best room in your home. After a tiring day nothing can make us feel better than a good night’s sleep. Therefore it’s pretty important to make your bed comfortable, warm and cozy so that your body is able to rejuvenate overnight, while you sleep. However, if you are unable to get adequate zzz’s at night, in the morning you’re very likely to be cranky and temperamental. So here are 5 surefire ways that will give you an edge over transforming your bedroom into a sleep sanctuary.

  1. Lighting

Lighting comes to play a very important role when we talk about soothing environment for a room. Nobody likes to wake up at the crack of dawn, so install some blackout shades to keep the morning sunshine from coming into your room and waking you up. You can also control the light by adding dimmer switches on it so that when you go off to bed you can dim the light to a level of your preference.

  1. Overall comfort

A lot of people suffer from insomnia and a comfortable room environment can help them combat this problem. The second way to make the aura of your room soothing is to choose a color scheme that is calming for the eyes. Putting a nice blanket and cozy sheets can also make you sleep better. Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to breathe in so that your body temperature is also maintained. It has been scientifically proven that a good smell can help elevate your mood. So think about burning a scented candle or spraying your room with a room freshener of the scent you like.

  1. Make it visually inviting

Rugs play a vital role in making a room visually inviting. Some fine quality tribal rugs from a reliable source can help tie the interior of the room together and make it look warm and comfy. Plus, waking up in the morning and placing your feet on a warm rug instead of a cold floor can also get you in a good mood in the morning.

  1. Refrain from putting distracting things in your room

Having a t.v or laptop in your room can distract you from sleeping. Also think about turning off the Wi-Fi if you can. You can check your instagram and facebook in the morning. This will encourage a good night’s sleep and help you doze off quickly.

  1. Declutter

A decluttered room can make you lose sleep as after coming home from a long day you just want to doze off. But when you see a messy room you get busy cleaning it and all that work can get on your nerves and you can end up losing sleep. So make sure that right after you wake up, you make your bed, put away your clothes in your wardrobe and place everything where it needs to be.
