In an effort to show you that you can organize without spending a dime on supplies, I’ve been challenging myself to look at what I throw away. Every time I empty a container, I ask myself what I could organize in/with it. This week I decide to organize with egg cartons. If you buy eggs these are things you don’t have to spend any money on and you can do a lot with!
I’ve used a few different types of egg cartons so you can see the differences and how they vary in appearance.
The first thing I did was use a clear egg carton to organize jewelry. I love this style of carton because it folds over on itself and closes. This is great for arts and craft supplies you don’t want to leak out or for jewelry you’d like to prevent tarnishing on. I will be using this to keep earrings and rings in place and save when traveling.
If you bead or paint, this style of carton would be a great choice to keep an in process project safe from being knocked over.
On the topic of craft supplies, egg cartons are a great way to store small craft supplies that would normally get lost on the bottom of a drawer. I like to store things I use frequently in here such as a small cutter, paint sponges and washi flags…I can grab the kit, use the contents and then slip it back inside my craft drawer.
If you have a lot of screws, picture hanging supplies or hardware, contain them in an egg carton. Not only is it easy to write on the container so you know what pieces of furniture the hardware belongs to, it’s lightweight and easy to carry around the house for repairs. This is a great way to make a kit for every floor of your home so you never have to run to the garage or basement looking for a screw again.
Lots of KCups on the counter? Yeah, we all have that problem. I was tired of digging through the box to find the flavor I wanted and I didn’t want to spend money on one of those high priced plastic organizers. SO, I tucked my kcups into an egg carton and it sits on a shelf in the pantry. I can see what I have, grab one easily and I know what flavors I have and when I need to reorder.
Those junk drawers and desk drawers have met their match with an egg carton. You can either leave the lid on so you can close it or take it off and set two side by side. Hold paper clips, batteries, couch drops and even keys. These are a great catch all that allow you to see and grab what you need instead of digging through a drawer full of STUFF.
