I talk about organizing your entryway a lot. Why? Because it’s the last place you see before you leave your home and the first thing you see when you come home. It’s important to keep it organized. This project will create a personalized “landing pad” for each member of your family.
You can really get creative with this one. Pick any size board you want, use any color paint you like and you can even chose the style of hook you prefer.
Here’s what I used:
A wooden board with routed edges. I bought this one from Darby Smart for $3.
Stain-this is a can I had laying around from a previous project. Lucky for you, the price tag was still on. It’s from Lowe’s and was $4.25.
I used vinyl and transfer paper for the name. You can use a custom cutting tool like the Silhouette OR you could use stencils and paint. If you have great handwriting, free hand it! You could also have your child put their hand print on the board.
Mug hooks. These sell in packages of at least ten usually for less than $1. I got these at Lowe’s home improvement store.
The first thing I did was stain the board. It was already sanded so I didn’t have any prep work to do. This is what two coats of stain looked like.
I actually purchased the name Matthew from Silhouette as a pre-made design. It was .99. This was vinyl and transfer paper I had from other projects. This project uses so little you can use scraps!
Next, screw in the hooks. Vary the hook size based on what you want to hang. My suggestions are; coats, backpacks, purses, sports equipment, keys, work and school identifications and even accessories.
Here is what it looks like once you add hooks. I added two of the small hooks mentioned above. I also added a cabinet knob for you to see another option. The sturdier knob can hold heavier items like a book bag or laptop bag.
So this cost under $5 to make. You can create one for every family member and it won’t break your budget. This is a great way to organize your entryway and make sure that everyone knows where their bags, coats and accessories are EVERY DAY. Make morning easier!
