DIY Wedding Decorations

June 11, 2015 • Celebrations

Cheryl Seidel, etiquette expert, and regular contributing writer for the Huffington Post, shares her expert advice on the perfect DIY wedding ideas! Every bride dreams of having the perfect wedding- a day that is unforgettable, fun, and beautiful. Over the past few years, the Do-It-Yourself Wedding has become very popular because many brides are on a budget, but want to add a unique or high end touch to their special day. Whatever your wedding theme or colors, we’re sure that you can find something on this list to incorporate into your wedding!

String Art

What do you get when you combine a piece of wood, nails, and string? This sweet piece of art! The heart may be the obvious choice for your wedding, but this can be customized any way you’d like.

Floral Letters

Large, decorative letters are an excellent way to add a special touch to your wedding. We like this X and O, but what about using this method for a monogram? This tutorial uses fresh flowers, but if you made it with silk flowers it could be displayed in your new home after your wedding.

Glitter Tea Light Holders

This may be the quickest DIY project ever! Spray on some glue, sprinkle some glitter and voila you’ve added a little sparkle to your wedding décor!

Pearl Letters

This project is somewhat tedious, but the end results are definitely worth it. (And you can catch up on your favorite TV show while working!) The pearls in this photo were spray painted metallic rose gold, but you could leave them white if you prefer. This method would also make beautiful table numbers or cake toppers!

Terrarium Centerpieces

These lovely terrariums can be created well in advance of your wedding and would be perfect for a beach wedding. Collect some glass containers and get working! You can even make mini versions as your wedding favors.

DIY ESCORT & PLACE CARDS

Color Dipped Cork Card Holder

These adorable cork placecard holders will add a pop of color to your reception. And they’re so simple you could have your flower girl or ring bearer get in on the action. (P.S. You don’t have to drink tons of wine to make these. The cork lids can be found at most craft stores!)

Colorful Pocket Escort Card Display

If you like to scrapbook, then this is a great project is for you! This would be an eye-catching display at the entrance of your reception and you can customize the colors to match your wedding.

Vintage Wood Table Numbers

A DIY list wouldn’t be complete unless mod podge was involved, right? These table numbers are crafted from from rustic wood, but this concept can be applied to any kind of wood you’d like. Design and print your table numbers then mod podge away.

Spice Dip Favor

Buy spices in bulk and create these little glass bottles for your guests to take home. You can even tie them in to your wedding by matching the spice to your family heritage or wedding cuisine.

 Berry Jam Favor

Summer is the perfect time to spread the love (get it?) with these jam wedding favors. If you have time, make your own jam. Otherwise, you can purchase small jars of jam and personalize them with a new label and some ribbon. Click the picture for lots of recipes and labels!

Oreo Pop Favor

Is there anyone out there that doesn’t love a delicious Oreo? I think not. Jazz ‘em up and hand ‘em out! The options are endless!
